Microsoft has announced that it has more than doubled the size of its Azure regions in the UK by adding new Availability Zones. This has increased capacity by more than 1,500% since 2016.
There are two Azure regions in the UK: UK South and UK West. By adding new Availability Zones into UK South, more businesses can take advantage of moving to the cloud and protecting their applications and data from potential hardware and software failures. Availability Zones are unique physical locations made up of one or more data centres equipped with independent power, cooling, and networking. This physical separation means that anyone using two or more Availability Zones in the same Azure region, benefits from guaranteed connectivity for 99.99% of the time.
The expansion will help UK organisations continue their move to the cloud as part of their digital transformation journey.
