What does a typical day in the life of an Account Director involve?
As an Account Director, our core objective is to ensure that our customers have a Technology Roadmap in place each year, and that it continually evolves in line with the client’s business objectives.
Our days tend to revolve around meeting our customers to discuss their business objectives and technology requirements and then using this to build them a bespoke technology alignment for their business. This means we spend a lot of the time out and about visiting customers, getting to know their business and people.
When we are not busy meeting clients, building their Roadmaps (or catching up on our admin), we are heads down learning about the latest and greatest technologies which will shape the future.
What’s the best thing about working in the IT industry?
I’ve always loved technology from a young age. Working in the IT industry and at Utilize gives me exposure to all manner of different technologies, which keeps the inner geek happy.
I enjoy working out how to apply the best of breed technologies for our clients’ businesses to ensure that technology helps them be productive and achieve their business goals – I get a real kick out of seeing how transformative this can be!
What skills/attributes do you feel are essential for someone interested in your role?
This role requires excellent written and verbal skills, being able to work with business contacts up to C level. A good understanding of how businesses function and how to align business objectives and goals to relevant technology solutions is critical.
Whilst the role is not hands on technical, you need to have excellent knowledge and understanding of the technologies we recommend, ensuring you are credible and can hold conversations with technical and non-technical contacts.
